High Heels: Choosing the Right Shoes for You

The following article is from the Chatelaine's back health website regarding high heeled shoes and its impact on your spine.

It has been known that poor footwear can cause difficulties in the feet, knees, hips, low back and all the way up the spine.  The best shoes for your feet are generally flat with adequate support.

Here are a few hints for the article when buying new heels:

1)  When shopping for shoes go in the afternoon or evening as your feet tend to swell throughout the day and give you a better ideal of what shoe is best for you.

2) Avoid heels with a height of no more than 2 inches.

3) Avoid buying shoes with many thin straps as these can dig into your skin and cause pain and swelling.

4) Choose shoes that have good support for the arches for your feet.

5) Purchase a cushioning pad into the front of the shoes to pad the balls of your feet. This will also help keep your toes from getting wedged into the front of the shoes.
