Myth Busting Fact - July

MYTH: Yoga can help with all kinds of back pain.

Fact: Yoga can in fact help with certain back issues/pain, but not great for all types.

I have lots of patients ask if they should start up yoga for their back problems.  I let them know that yoga could help build a stronger more flexible spine, especially if their back pain is muscle-related.

That being said, if your spinal pain stems from other sources, such as a herniated disc, yoga is not likely going to help and may if fact irritate the problem and cause even more pain.

It is always best to people with back pain/issues to get an OK from their Health Care Practitoner before starting any new exercise regime whether it be yoga and pilates to cross-fit.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding yoga or any other type of exercise routine you're looking to start and are unsure if it's ok for your spine to start, feel free to contact Benefit Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic in Langley, BC at 604-534-7451.
