Top 'Desk Job' Chiropractic Issues

Working a desk job may seem like a healthy occupation that is easy on the body. However, prolonged sitting with poor posture can lead to serious health complications. With more and more jobs requiring people to sit for 8 or more hours a day, it's no surprise that more and more people are visiting chiropractors due to desk job issues.

If you have been experiencing aches and muscle strains from constantly sitting in a chair, visiting a chiropractor will help. Here are some of the top desk job issues that a chiropractor can alleviate.

Sciatica pain

Sitting for too long is a surefire way to cause muscle tightness and pain throughout your lower body. This is especially true for the sciatica nerve. Sciatica pain is caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve, which runs down the back of each leg. This happens when continuous pressure is placed on your nerves from too much sitting.

It's best to avoid sitting for prolonged periods while on your computer. Additionally, doing stretches and exercises once or twice a day can help prevent muscle tension and aches throughout your leg area.

Scoliosis

Excess sitting can deform your spine, which leads to an ailment known as scoliosis. This common type of spinal issue causes pain in the lower back, sides, and hips. Scoliosis may also affect the lower back area causing pain throughout the hamstrings and calves. In certain cases, it can cause headaches or migraines.

Scoliosis will not go away on its own and will only get worse with prolonged sitting. It is recommended to visit a chiropractor and do stretches to maintain proper mobility and prevent scoliosis.

Back pain

Sitting all day with poor posture can cause back pain. Back pain is a common result of slouching forward with your shoulders hunched up. Over time, this causes stress to accumulate in your muscles and tendons and results in muscle tightness and pain throughout your back.

This type of pain is known as "pain of sitting." When you are seated upright with a straight spine, good posture will also help to alleviate back pain and headaches.

Neck Pain

Sitting for too long can have detrimental effects on your posture. When this is the case, your neck is often the first body part that suffers. Some people can work through this pain, but it is recommended to visit a chiropractor.

Chiropractors do more than adjust your spine. Through a series of visits, they will effectively loosen muscles and improve muscle alignment.
