Orthotics - Not Just for Foot Pain

Custom orthotics are provided to patients to relieve foot pain and improve muscle performance over time – but they are not for only foot pain. Those who suffer from back pain, hip and knee pain, and arthritis-related pains can also find relief by using custom orthotics consistently.

Each pair of orthotics is custom tailored to the individual according to their problems. The treatment for an athlete with pain is going to vary extremely differently from a person who is receiving treatment for pain from a broken bone or inflamed ligament.

Orthotics are designed to ensure that the bones, ligaments, and tendons in the lower legs and feet are aligned and positioned properly – this eases pain and stress on the feet and over time will improve the functioning of the muscles throughout the legs and the rest of the body over time. Because the foot is the part of the body that absorbs shock as we move, it is important to prevent friction between the bones and muscles of the foot and legs. There are a number of degenerative conditions that occur that can also be resolved by the use of custom orthotics, including: heel spurs, flat feet, issues with foot arches, stress fractures, and plantar fasciitis. Lower back pain, as well as hip and knee pain, are often relieved by use of properly fitted custom orthotics as they will help with muscle misalignment.

Constant pressure on the feet, or consistent tasks performed while standing on hard, uncomfortable surfaces can lead to recurring pain in the feet and legs. To avoid turning these aches and pains into more serious foot and structural problems, it may be beneficial to look into being fitted for a pair of orthotics.
